Bildungsurlaub at IH Madrid: Learn Spanish in Madrid with a study permit

If you live in Germany and want to learn Spanish with government financial support, take advantage of your Bildungsurlaub with us at IH Madrid! We offer an immersive and culturally rich educational experience with our Intensive 30 Spanish course, recognized by the Bildungsurlaub program, also known as Bildungsfreistellung or Bildungszeit.

What is Bildungsurlaub?

The German government provides funding for the Bildungsurlaub program, a study leave for workers in Germany that promotes continuing education and personal development. These are days off granted IN ADDITION to regular vacation time and cover a wide range of courses, including Spanish courses in Spain.

Bildungsurlaub is a legal right for workers in 14 of Germany’s 16 federal states, and IH Madrid is certified to offer courses to people from the following states:

  • Baden-Württemberg
  • Berlin
  • Brandenburg
  • Hesse
  • Lower Saxony
  • Saarland
  • Saxony-Anhalt

Why take a Spanish course with Bildungsurlaub?

Legal Right

It’s your right! In Germany, as a general rule, employees are entitled to five days of Bildungsurlaub (educational leave) per year (six in Saarland), which are in addition to your regular vacation days. If you can’t use your Bildungsurlaub in a given year, you can usually carry it over to the next year, accumulating up to ten days.

Personal choice

The Bildungsurlaub doesn’t have to be directly related to your professional profile or directly benefit your company. You can choose any course that has been approved by your region, such as our Intensive 30 Spanish course.

Personal and professional advantage

We work to live, not live to work. Continuous training improves health, well-being, and overall happiness. Learning Spanish and immersing oneself in Spanish culture also enriches personal and professional life, broadening horizons and improving adaptability and intercultural understanding.

Holistic Development

The Bildungsurlaub enriches participants with knowledge in diverse areas, from politics and culture to personal and professional development. Your cultural immersion in Spain not only offers a healthy break from work, but also fosters Spanish language learning, interaction with students from around the world, and participation in social and cultural activities in Madrid. This strengthens self-confidence and broadens horizons in a comprehensive way.

Learning Environment

Learning in a welcoming and vibrant community is rewarding and revitalizing, with opportunities for relaxation and cultural exchange. This dynamic not only enriches the learning experience but also facilitates immersion in the Spanish language and promotes interaction among international students, creating memorable and enriching moments in Madrid.
